Statement on the activities of non-governmental organizations

Dear Chairlady,

As democratically elected representatives of towns and villages in the vicinity of the Mochovce nuclear facility, we are scandalized by the activities of certain non-governmental organizations reffering to the Mochovce Units 3&4 project. We object publishing of any further information on the project beyond the scope of information that is clear and known to us and the general public thanks to the open approach of the supervisory body and operator.

We object publishing of any further information on the project.

We represent the citizens of four towns and more than ninety municipalities in the vicinity of the nuclear facility. Our citizens are considered the very public that can be directly jeopardized by such an investment and subsequent operation of the nuclear facility. Nobody communicated neither with these citizens, nor with us as democratically elected representatives, nor asked whether we agree with the disclosure of such sensitive information to third parties. We fully trust the independent and impartial supervisory body, the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic, that it can sufficiently assess what is safe for citizens who are directly affected by the operation of such a facility.

We fully trust the independent and impartial supervisory body, the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic.

Our main interest is the protection of the legitimate interests of the citizens of our region, their safety and, last but not least, the social and economic development of the region. No third party which filed a complaint, at Slovak courts or also at the Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee, does not represent the interests of the citizens of this region; they have never communicated such an attitude with us, nor explained the reasons why they want to disclose, in our view, very sensitive information about the nuclear power plant. By publishing further information that would be subsequently easily accessible for abuse, the interests of the citizens of the region, their lives, health and property could be jeopardized.

We continue to express our full support for the independent and impartial Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic, which is for us a guarantee of maintaining a high level of nuclear safety in Slovakia.

We continue to express our full support for the independent and impartial Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic.

With respect to the above, we believe that neither supervisory body nor the operator should publish further information beyond the scope of the already published information in relation to Mochovce Units 3&4 project. We want to present this attitude also at the assembly of our association on 14 March and subsequently inform the representatives of the Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee.

Yours sincerely,

Ing. Štefan Mišák

Chairman of the Association
